FAQ
Questions, answered.
The app
Is it really free?
Yes. Your course, its final practical and its certificate are free, with no ads and no trial. Packs go deeper on one subject, if you ever want them.
Who is it for?
Anyone who takes photos of people: for themselves, for someone they love, for guests at work, or for people on their tours. The app asks which, and your answer picks your course. You can change it any time in Me.
Do I need an account?
No. Open the app and start. Your progress stays on your phone and, if you use iCloud, in your own iCloud account, so it follows you to a new phone or your iPad. We never see it. Nothing is shared unless you join a team, and then only your first name, the lessons you finish for work and your final practical.
What do packs add?
More depth on one subject: advanced composition, photos for two, sharp or soft, portraits, groups and celebrations, outdoors and travel, night and tricky light, and camera skills. $4.99 each, or $19.99 for Lifetime access: every pack, including packs added later. Packs are shared with your family through Family Sharing.
Can I buy packs on this website?
No. Packs are bought in the app. If your venue or tour operator subscribes to PicTrainer, every pack is free for you while you’re on the team.
Does it work on Android?
The app is for iPhone, with iOS 26 or later. What you learn works on any phone, including an Android someone hands you.
Venues
What do I actually get?
A website for your venue: a dashboard of who has joined and how far each person has got, a join code and poster, your best photo spots and house rules (which appear inside the app as lessons for your team), a photo-friendly badge to print, and a short email every Monday.
Do my staff need to buy anything?
No. The app and the course are free, and once you subscribe, everyone on your team gets every pack too, at no cost to them.
Do I need the app myself?
No. Owners and managers only use this website. You’re welcome to try the app, of course.
How do my staff join?
They download the free app, tap Me, then “Join your team”, and type or scan your code. They see exactly what you’ll see before they agree.
What if some of my team use Android?
The app is iPhone only for now. What they learn works on any phone, including a guest’s Android phone they’re handed at the table.
How long does it take?
About 43 minutes for the course. Lessons take one to three minutes, so they fit into quiet moments on a shift.
Someone left. How do I remove them?
Open Team, choose the person, and tap “Remove from team”. Their progress disappears from your dashboard and they keep the free app.
Can I run more than one venue?
Yes. Add another from the team menu; each has its own code, team and plan. For three or more, talk to us about group pricing.
What counts as “certified”?
Certified means the person finished all 23 Core lessons of Guest photography and passed the final practical, the last of them, which checks real photos of a colleague, taken on their own phone.
Tour operators
What do I actually get?
A website for your company: a dashboard of who has joined and how far each guide has got, a join code and invite link, your photo stops grouped by tour, your guide rules and welcome (which appear inside the app in your guides’ lessons), a listing badge and a meeting-point sticker, and a short email every Monday.
Our guides are freelancers. Does that work?
Yes. Guides join with your code on their own iPhone and pay nothing. If they also guide for other companies, they join those too, and each company sees only its own team.
Do guides need to buy anything?
No. The app and the course are free, and once you subscribe, everyone on your team gets every pack too, at no cost to them.
How long does it take?
About 48 minutes for the course. Lessons take one to three minutes, so they fit between tours.
How is the price set?
By team size: up to 10, 40 or 150 guides, never per guide. More than 150? Talk to us.
What if we have more guides than our band?
Nobody is turned away. Your dashboard shows a note, and we ask you to move up a band at your next renewal.
Who sees our photo stops?
Only the guides on your team, inside the app. Another company a guide works for never sees them.
What counts as “certified”?
Certified means the guide finished all 26 Core lessons of Tour photography and passed the final practical, the last of them, which checks real photos of a colleague, taken on their own phone.
Staff and guides
Does it cost me anything?
No. The app is free, and while you’re on a team whose venue or tour operator subscribes, every pack is free for you too.
What does my manager see?
Your first name, the lessons you finish for work (including ones you’d already done), and whether you passed the final practical. Never your photos, your personal lessons, your phone number, anything outside the app, or any other team you’re on.
I guide for several companies.
Join each one with its code. Each sees only its own team, and you see each one’s photo stops and rules.
I changed jobs.
Leave the team in Me, then join your new one with its code. Your lessons come with you.
I have an Android phone.
The app is iPhone only for now. What you learn works on any phone, including the one a guest or traveler hands you.
Privacy and data
Where is the data stored?
In a managed database in the EU (Frankfurt), encrypted at rest and in transit. We don’t sell data or show ads.
Does the app track me?
No. The app sends no usage counts and uses no analytics service, and practice photos never leave your phone. We hear from you only if you send us feedback.
Do staff and guides need an account?
No. Nobody needs an email address or phone number to use the app or join a team. Joining a team uses a private, anonymous sign-in on the phone.
How do I delete everything?
Owners can delete a team in Settings. It removes the team, its progress, your spots or stops and their photos, straight away.
Plan and billing
How does the trial work?
30 days free with no card: the course for your whole team, your own content in the app, and the dashboard. The packs unlock for your team as soon as you add a card. We remind you a week before and the day before the trial ends.
What happens when the trial ends?
We email you 7 days and 1 day before. Add a card any time in Plan & billing. If you don’t, nobody new can join and your team goes back to the free app; you can still sign in. Nothing is deleted for 90 days.
What if I stop paying?
Nobody new can join, the Monday email stops, and your team goes back to the free app. You can still sign in, nothing is deleted for 90 days, and it all comes back when you resume.
Do you charge per person?
No. Venues pay one price per location. Tour operators pay by team size, never per guide, however many join.
Can I pay yearly?
Yes, with two months free. Choose Yearly on the Pricing page to see the prices.
Can we change band?
Yes, in Plan & billing. Moving up starts straight away, and you pay the difference for the rest of the period. Moving down, or from yearly to monthly, starts at your next renewal.
Which currencies and taxes?
Prices are shown in your currency where we offer it, and otherwise in US dollars. Sales tax or VAT is added at checkout where it applies, and your invoice shows it.
Can I get an invoice?
Every payment has an invoice in Plan & billing, with your business details and tax.
Can I cancel?
Any time, in two clicks from Plan & billing. The plan runs to the end of the period you paid for, and your team keeps the free app and everything they’ve learned.
